Welcome to the BARF page of Midland Rocketry.

BARF stands for Basic Altitude Rocket Flight. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to help your children, junior members or even the adults towards a BARF.

Aim of BARF:
To design, build and fly a model rocket so that it reaches the designated altitude (See Below). You can use any model making materials, motors (legal) in your designs. As long as the RSO is happy that the rocket will be stable and complies with the UKRA safety code, Midland Rocketry By-laws and Midland Rocketry site limitations then it will be allowed to fly.
This will help the junior members to design and understand the principles of rocketry, and maybe help us adults.

How to Enter:
*New Rule Change Jan 08*
Any flight that is entered into the Midland Rocketry Flight Database with an attached datafile (send the data file to the chairman) is now automatically entered into the BARF challenge.

Fee`s:
The are no fee's.

Altitude Verification:
Verification will be by a Recording Altimeter Only. If you don't have an altimeter then the club can provide you with one for the launch.
The club altimeter is a Perfectflite MiniAlt/WD (MAWD).
The altimeter data will be downloaded from the altimeter for verification and then also uploaded to this page for record keeping. It also allows the juniors and us adults to walk away from a rocket flight not only with a happy memory but also with the data from an altimeter.

Competitions Runtime:
The competition will end on the last flying event which is November. The presentation will be held at the AGM and also the next designated altitude will be set.

Who will be the winner?
The winner will be the team/individual who reaches the designated altitude. In the event of a draw (two or more teams/Individuals) then it will be decided on the other flights that rocket has made during the year and how close those other flights were to the designated altitude. This will show that the design worked well by getting to/near the designated altitude on its flights.

2007 Designated Altitude:
The altitude for 2007 was 1111ft. Gareth Ison won with an altitude of 1097ft.

2008 Designated Altitude:
The altitude for 2008 will be 555ft.

Here is the current league table...
