For the majority of the time, our events run on the second Sunday of each month though we may put on extra days in the summer etc. Over the course of the weekend I can get several calls from pilots asking questions about what we are doing, so to help give them more information about our activities I have created this article and linked it with a tinyurl link within the NOTAM. So buy putting tinyurl.com/583rn6 into your browser will bring you to this page.
About Us
We fly Model Rockets which range in diameter from just under an inch to a possible maximum diameter of 12inches and they can range in length from a few inches to approx 20ft. Most of the rockets we fly are in the lower limits of the above statement.
These rockets when flown will reach different altitudes, some will even come close to reaching our maximum altitude of 4,500ft
We fly mostly from our Primary Site that is designated Twycross 1, on the NOTAM it is shown as MIDROC-TYX1
We may also use our other Secondary site Twycross 2 (on the NOTAM it is shown as MIDROC-TYX2) on an occasional basis, but this is only when for some physical reason we can not get onto the land at our Primary Site. We will only know this on the day when we turn up, so this is why both sites have a NOTAM raised.
If you are intending to fly over the area of the NOTAM, then I can assure you that as part of our Safety Code we will shut down all activities when any form aircraft approaches the site, once the aircraft has passed and shows no sign of circling we then start up activities again. So pilots can be assured that we will not launch anything when you are in the area.
From the Map below, I have indicated our 2 sites. Each site is centred over our launch area. The inner red circle is our recovery area as defined by the
UKRA Safety Code, the outer pinker circle is the area covered by the NOTAM.
