The Spaceflight Team was formed to provide technical, policy and regulatory expertise to support the Government’s ambitions of enabling space launch activities from the UK.

We currently issue commercial and large rocket permissions for rocket launch activities in the UK under Article 96 of the Air Navigation Order of 2016 (ANO).

 

We also play a key role in developing a new regulatory framework as part of the Government’s Launch UK Spaceflight Programme to enable satellite launch from UK spaceports under the Space Industry Act 2018.

The priority of these frameworks is to protect the safety of the general public.
